Love this product I have been able to loss the fat and keep my muscle. I replace one meal a day at about 12pm it keeps me full until dinner time. I Love this stuff. Profile: Cindy Arko, Associate, NJ Last month, Cindy Arko completed the Beach to Battleship IronMan® Triathlon in North Carolina -- a tough competition even by elite athlete standards. But for Cindy, the race was more than a test of physical endurance…it was a chance to prove her strength and tenacity in the face of some tough obstacles. Check out her story and how Shaklee products powered her inspirational achievement. My day began with a 2.4 mile swim, then a 112 mile bike ride and concluded with a 26.2 mile run. I’m proud to say Shaklee products were with me every step of the way! A normal day for me always starts with Vita-Lea®, OmegaGuard®, CoQHeart®, B-Complex and Optiflora®. Besides a healthy diet, I know Shaklee Sports Nutrition™ has provided me with an excellent foundation to stay healthy and maintain great energy levels. I use Shaklee Performance® exclusively for hydration in my training - before, during and after every workout. Shaklee Physique® has also been an integral part of my exercise recovery regimen. For me, getting to the race was as much of a challenge as completing it. I had a serious cycling accident in June and I was afraid my dream of completing an Ironman was crushed. I was told I’d be out for the season and there was just no way I would recover in time for the race. After about five weeks off my bike and very little training, I decided there was a way! And Shaklee Moodlift® Complex*, Gentle Sleep Complex* and Shaklee Sports Nutrition – (especially Physique), helped me get myself back in the game! I’m so thankful to Roger for all that he does to make Shaklee the best Nutrition Company on the planet. I’m also thankful for my upline Master Coordinator, Jeanne Toovell (Senior Master Coordinator, NY) for believing in me, and never giving up on me during some rough times. It’s been a journey and I’ve struggled. One thing that has remained constant is Shaklee. I feel so blessed Shaklee is such a big part of my life and my training. Cindy’s IronMan Nutrition Plan: With any endurance event nutrition is key to success. I’ve seen athletes put in the time training but never make it to the finish line due to stomach issues or just hitting the wall. I made up my mind I wasn’t going to let that happen. I finished my race in 14 hours with no cramping, and no issues whatsoever. Here’s a recap of where I think Shaklee made the difference. Race Weekend: The week prior I loaded up on Optiflora, Vitamin C and Garlic Complex to support my immune system going into the race.* I consumed Three 16-20 oz bottles of Performance the night before the race, in addition to one double serving of Energizing Soy Protein and two Gentle Sleep Complex before bedtime to help me settle down. Pre-Swim Breakfast I needed about 850 calories at 4 AM before the race started. Very tough - but a combination of Energizing Soy Protein, oatmeal, a banana and Shaklee Energy Chews worked very well for me and was easy on my stomach. I consumed one large (20 ounce) bottle of Performance, a teaspoon of Vivix®, all my vitamins - and I was out the door running! Bike Ride Fuel On my bike I prepared a mix in advance to get approximately 2,000 calories to get me through my 6-7 hour ride. I consumed most of my nutrition on the bike to be prepared to run 26.2 miles without issue. The mix consisted of a concentrated Triple Serving of Performance and Physique which I sipped every fifteen minutes on the bike. Midway through the bike ride at Mile 56, I ate an egg sandwich, some Fig Newtons® and took one Vita-Lea and one B-Complex. I also had a small plastic bag of Performance and a few salt tablets and refilled my water bottle for the second half of the ride. The ride seemed easy and I was ready for the run – my biggest physical challenge. Aside from some pesky ongoing leg issues, the run was a breeze. Before the run, I took in some quick calories. No need for Performance by this time, because I was fully fueled from the bike. I consumed water and chicken broth at the aid stations and at mile 14 and again at 22 when I needed an extra boost; I ate two Shaklee Energy* Chews. My plan worked without a hitch. I am an IRONMAN! Power Up With Polyphenols Can you believe how amazing plants are? Some scientists believe Nrf2 may be the master genetic regulator of cellular stress resistance and strongly impact the aging process. •Some, but not all, polyphenols have been shown to inhibit the formation of AGE proteins in laboratory studies. AGE proteins occur with normal aging. They may be acerbated by unhealthy eating habits, and damage our cells through a process called cross-linking. Researchers at the University of Georgia found that a blend of polyphenols, including muscadine grapes, inhibited age protein formation better than resveratrol alone. How We Age

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! The official start of the holiday season and, as the song says, the most wonderful time of the year. And indeed it is. But it’s also the time of year when life gets more stressful, and we tend to overindulge in high-sugar, high-fat, and artificially flavored and colored foods. We drink more alcohol than we should. And we’re exposed to an extra load of environmental toxins: smoke in our fireplaces; cigar smoke at parties; artificial fragrances at the mall; and exhaust fumes from sitting in holiday traffic. It’s enough to make you feel older than you really are! Well, don’t let the holidays age you. Learn what scientists have discovered about the aging process, and what you can do to age healthier, starting this holiday season. Here’s to your good health! How We Age Aging is a complex but natural process that affects every cell, organ, and body function you have. It's impacted by a number of factors, including genetics, nutritional habits, and other lifestyle aspects. But how exactly do we age? Well, scientists have been developing theories of aging for centuries, and more recently have invested billions of dollars into research in hopes of developing interventions to help alter or slow the aging process. To date, research suggests there are several key mechanisms involved: DNA Damage Every day the DNA of our cells is under assault. The causes—oxidative damage as a result of normal metabolism, mistakes in cell replication, and exposure to environmental factors such as radiation and other toxins. These assaults can cause “genetic typos” or more mistakes in DNA replication. Eventually, these mutations accumulate, causing cells to malfunction and die. Declines in Cell Energy Production Mitochondria are “intra-cellular power plants” that convert carbohydrates, fats, and protein from the foods we eat into cellular energy. However, as we age the number of mitochondria in our cells and their ability to produce energy decreases. In addition, the production of cell energy itself creates free radicals (highly reactive and unstable molecules) which damage mitochondrial membranes and cellular DNA. Over time, this damage accumulates and mitochondria stop functioning. Formation of AGEs As we age, the formation of AGEs (advanced glycation end products) occurs. They form when sugar molecules attach to proteins leading to structural changes called protein cross-links. AGE proteins build up slowly but accumulate as we age, and damage body tissues. Hurricane Sandy is one of the largest and most powerful storms to affect the United States in recent memory, the largest Atlantic hurricane ever known, and has impacted literally millions of people, sadly taking the lives of 170 or more as it cut across the Caribbean and made its way throughout our Eastern coast.

All of us at Shaklee are tremendously concerned for all who have been affected, and especially for our Shaklee Family Members who have suffered losses, damage and disruption to their lives. Shaklee Cares®, our non-profit organization dedicated to relief in times of natural disaster, will do all that we can to help. Here is what we have done so far, and will be doing over the next several weeks to support those whose lives have been impacted.

A tiny square inch of your skin can contain 50 million of them. Most are harmless. But some, such as viruses, can be downright dangerous. As a catchall, we call them germs. Your body has powerful microscopic armed forces to combat germs. Billions of white blood cells vigilantly patrol through the blood stream. Special fighting units, cells in your bloodstream called macrophages (Greek for big eaters) attack germs by surrounding them and digesting them. Other cells make powerful chemicals called antibodies. They are anti, or against, these foreign bodies and attack the outsides of germs. They team with other specialized germ fighters called T cells. Each kind of germ has an outer layer that’s different than those on other germs. Antibodies your body produced to fight off last year’s flu virus can’t get a grip on this year’s model. So your immune system has to go back to the drawing board and make new antibodies. But the good news is germs can’t fool your immune system twice. Once your body has withstood an attack by a specific germ, the antibody making cells remain on alert. They're ready to rumble if the same germs show up again.
